Contested. Older meta-analyses report large gains, but Cochrane, an independent IPD analysis, and a bias-adjusted synthesis find the evidence weak and effects largely attenuated.
Older meta-analyses report large IQ (g ~1.10) and moderate adaptive-behavior effects (Eldevik et al., 2009; Virues-Ortega, 2010). But a Cochrane review rated the evidence low/very-low certainty (Reichow et al., 2018), an independent individual-participant-data analysis found only modest gains amid pervasive design problems (Rodgers et al., 2021), and a large bias-adjusted synthesis (Project AIM) found behavioral-intervention effects largely disappeared when restricted to RCTs (Sandbank et al., 2023). The field is methodologically contested.
