Supported by meta-analyses identifying explicit instruction as the highest-yield component for students with LD in mathematics (Gersten et al., 2009), a half-century Direct Instruction meta-analysis of ~328 studies with uniformly positive effects (Stockard et al., 2018), and convergent reading- and math-intervention meta-analyses (Berkeley et al., 2010; Stevens et al., 2018; Jitendra et al., 2018). Effects are largest on proximal academic measures and scale with instructional time.
