Meta-analyses across dozens of studies find no moderation of child adjustment by parental sexual orientation (Fedewa et al., 2015; Suárez et al., 2022), the longest prospective study (the National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study) reports healthy adolescent adjustment (Gartrell & Bos, 2010), and observational studies show family-process variables, not family type, drive outcomes (Golombok et al., 2017). Early studies drew methodological critiques (Marks, 2012), but later representative and longitudinal work upholds the no-difference finding.
