Childhood food insecurity is consistently associated with worse academic, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes, and quasi-experimental evidence shows that access to food assistance (the Food Stamp Program / SNAP) in early childhood causally improves long-term adult human capital and health — though the food-insecurity associations themselves are substantially confounded by poverty.
